エリザベスキースはスコットランドに生まれ、独学で水彩画などを描いた。大正4年、28歳となったキースは姉を訪ね初来日する。そこで日本の風景や風俗が実に絵画的であることに惹かれ、浮世絵の技法を学んだ。以降9年間に及んだ長期滞在期間中と、昭和4-8年に再来日をした際に、姉と一緒に日本を始め、朝鮮、中国、シンガポール、フィリピン、東南アジアなどを旅行し、各国の風景や人々の極めてありふれた日常を木版画に残しており、100点以上の作品を残している。

Elizabeth Keith was born in Scotland and studied painting by herself.
In 1915, when Keith was 28 years old, she visited Japan to see her old sister, and then, she attracted to Japanese landscapes and cultures and started to learn Ukiyo-e.
She had spent in Japan for 9 years since the year and returned to Japan with her old sister from 1929 to 1933. Then she had traveled around Asia and created more than 100 artworks whose motifs are common scenery in the days.
