大きな丸太に立派な雄鶏が一羽。その周りには、無邪気なヒヨコが二羽戯れている。雄鶏とヒヨコは目配せをして、愛情を確かめ合っているようだ。
芳盛は国芳の門人で、幼少時より国芳の門に入り、国芳の画風によく倣った武者絵、時局絵、花鳥画などを描いた。「ゑぎりす人の図」、「五ヶ国」、「港崎横浜一覧」などの横浜絵の作品があるが、「東都名所」その他において江戸市中遊覧の外国人を描いた作品は珍しい。ほかに合作の「御上洛東海道」や「末広五十三次」にも参加した。後に光斎と号して作品を手がけている。明治以降、一時は内務省に十三等官吏として勤務もした。

A magnificent rooster stands on a large log. Two chicks are playing around him. The rooster and chick look at each other and seem to confirm their affection.
Yoshimori was a pupil of Kuniyoshi from childhood and painted pictures of warriors, current events, flowers, and birds in the style of Kuniyoshi. His other works depicting foreigners touring the city of Edo are rare. He also participated in the collaborative works. He later worked under the name Kosai. After the Meiji era (1868-1912), he worked in the Ministry of Home Affairs as an official of the thirteenth rank.
