時計と美人Ⅳは当時名古屋にあった老舗堀田時計店の創業90年を記念して作られた。深水はその他にも3点、堀田時計店の依頼で時計と美人の作品を制作している。
伊東 深水が18歳（大正5年）の頃、清方塾生による郷土会展に「対鏡」を出品したところ、渡邊庄三郎の目にとまった。木版画にすれば必ず良い作品が制作できると確信した庄三郎は、新版画の制作を決意。以後、大正5年から昭和35年までの間に130点を超える深水の新版画が制作された。
その後も、日本画家としても文展に入選するなど早くから注目を集め、文展、帝展、新文展、戦後に入って日展を主な舞台として活躍し、日本を代表する美人画家として認められていった。

Clock and Beauty (IV) was created to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the founding of the long-established Hotta Clock and Watch CO.LTD, which was located in Nagoya at the time. Shinsui also created three other works Clock and Beauty at their request.
In 1916, when Ito Shinsui was 18 years old, an exhibition of the pupils of Kiyokata was held. Shinsui exhibited "Woman Looking in a Mirror" at the exhibition, and it fascinated Watanabe Shozaburo. Then Watanabe decided to start making woodcut print works of Shinsui, and later, he produced over 130 printworks from 1916 to 1960.
