横浜山手の外国人墓地を描いた一枚。
黒船来航の際に転落死した水兵の埋葬地として、ペリーが海の見える墓地を要求した事が始まりで、その後19世紀から20世紀半ばにかけて日本で命を落とした外国人が眠っている。本作品は関野が渡米からの帰国後に制作した東海道五十三次シリーズのうちの一つ。

関野準一郎は中学時代から版画誌を発行し、25歳で上京して恩地孝四郎に師事。また、棟方志功の教えを受けた。
国内での版画展で注目されるようになった後、関野はロックフェラー財団やフォード財団、オレゴン州立大学などから招待され渡米。アメリカの色彩に影響されてか、更に鮮やかな作品を増やした。その後の東海道五十三次シリーズでは、旅を経験した関野らしいユニークな視点で景色を切り取っており、色彩豊かで魅力的な作品を多く残している。

This print is one of the 53 Stations of the Tokaido series that Sekino created after returning from his trip to the United States.
It's depicts the Yokohama Foreign General Cemetery in Yamate, Yokohama.
The cemetery began when Perry asked the Japanese government to provide a cemetery overlooking the sea as a burial place for sailors who died in accidents upon arriving in Japan. Foreigners who subsequently died in Japan between the 19th and mid-20th centuries are buried in this cemetery.

Sekino Junichiro began publishing print magazines as a junior high school student and moved to Tokyo at 25 to study under Onchi Koshiro. He was also taught by Munakata Shiko.　
After gaining recognition for various print exhibitions in Japan, Sekino was invited by the Rockefeller Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Oregon State University and visited the United States. Perhaps influenced by the colors of American art, he produced more vivid works after returning to Japan. In his 53 Stations of the Tokaido series, Sekino captured the scenery from a unique perspective typical of his travel experiences, leaving behind many colorful and appealing works.
