恩地孝四郎は、木版画、装幀、写真など様々な分野で活躍した作家である。日本における最初期の抽象画の先駆者として前衛性が高く評価されている。
この作品では靖国神社を背後に、九段下へと向かう景色が描かれている。画面からはみ出るように描かれた手前の人物や、画面のなかに長く伸びる影によって、薄暮の陽光や空間の広がりが巧みに表現されている。

Onchi Koshiro was an artist active in a variety of fields, including woodblock prints, book designs, and photography. As a pioneer of abstract painting in Japan, he is highly regarded for his avant-garde style.
This work depicts a view leaving the precincts of Yasukuni Shrine and heading toward Kudanshita. The figures in the foreground protrude from the screen, and the long stretching shadows skillfully express the dusk sunlight and the expanse of space.
