Tokyo Nichinichi Newspaper is the former name of The Mainichi Newspapers Co., Ltd. It was a modern newspaper published after the Meiji Restoration. These newspaper prints, with their eye-catching pictures and detailed gossip reporting, were popular among commons seeking stimulation and sold well.
Yoshiiku was a pupil of Kuniyoshi and he studied with Yoshitoshi. After Kuniyoshi's death, he became one of the leading ukiyo-e artists from the end of the Edo period to the beginning of the Meiji period by depicting the manners and customs of brothels.
