『太平記英雄伝』は、幕府の規制を避けるため「太平記」の名を借りつつ、実際には天正期の織田・豊臣軍の武将たちの活躍を描いた国芳の代表的な武者絵シリーズである。本作に登場する「志村政蔵勝豊」は、明智光秀の家臣として知られる志村光安をモデルとしている。

Taiheiki Eiyuden is a representative warrior print series by Kuniyoshi that used the title of the medieval epic Taiheiki as a mask to bypass Bakumatsu censorship, while actually depicting the exploits of warlords and samurai from the Oda and Toyotomi forces of the Tensho era. The figure "Shimura Masazo Katsutoyo" featured in this print is modeled after Shimura Mitsuyasu, a vassal known for serving Akechi Mitsuhide .
