加藤清正（規制を逃れるため佐藤正清と表記）が四国征伐の際、長宗我部元親（小曽宇部元親と表記）の本城を攻め落としたのち、偶然足を踏み入れた深山で遭遇した怪物たちを退治する場面を描いた絵巻仕立ての躍動的な作品である。
画面中央では特長的な鎌槍を構える正清が巨大な大蝦蟇に立ち向かい、その周囲には大蜘蛛や怪鳥など怪異の軍勢がひしめくダイナミックな構図をとる。奇抜な発想力と迫力ある群集表現が活かされた一作である。

"Sato Masakiyo" is a pseudonym used to circumvent censorship laws, referring to Kato Kiyomasa. He participated in the Conquest of Shikoku as part of Hashiba Hideyoshi's rear guard, fighting against forces such as those led by Chosokabe Motochika.
Yoshitora, a disciple of Kuniyoshi, was one of the leading artists active from the late Edo period into the Meiji period. He was especially known for his Yokohama-e and Kaika-e, which depicted the novel customs and fashions emerging around the Meiji Restoration. His works included numerous depictions of foreign landscapes unfamiliar to most Japanese of the time.
