How to see the artwork information
"Date"
In the case of Ukiyo-e, the "Date" refers to the year the work was published.
Since there is no way to know the date other than from the seal printed on the artwork, we don't display the date of artworks without a seal.
In general, the first 200 prints are considered to be the first edition, and later printings using the same woodblocks are considered to be later printings and are judged by our professional staff.
In the case of Shin-Hanga, the "Date" comes from the year indicated mainly in the margin of the artwork, so it refers to the year the woodblock was created, not the actual year of printing.
Also, in the case of Shin-Hanga, those printed early are called the First state print, and those printed later using the same woodblocks are called later prints and are judged by our expert staff.
In the case of Sosaku-Hanga and Modern prints, the year of printing is indicated.

O-ban: Usual size of Ukiyo-e. (approx. 39 x 26.5 cm)

Ko-ban: Half the size of the Chu-ban, but smaller. (approx. 19.5 x 13 cm)
Hoso-ban: Elongate size. (approx. 33 x 15 cm or 47 x 16 cm)
O-tanzaku: Two-thirds the size of the O-ban, long and narrow. (approx. 39 x 18 cm)
Naga-O-ban: Elongate and large size. (approx. 50 x 22 cm).
*Most Ukiyo-e works have been trimmed due to the fact that they were inexpensive for a long time. In other words, almost Ukiyo-e is not identical to the above sizes.
