鏡の中で髪を整える女性を、興味深げに鬼がのぞき込む面白い一枚。
この作品は明治33年に刊行された『文芸倶楽部』用に制作された口絵作品の一つである。
口絵は本の附録として制作されたものであるが、そのクオリティは非常に高く、繊細な線の表現は浮世絵に劣らない。
年方は芳年門下で実質的な一門の後継者に推された。年方は穏やかで気品のある独自の風俗画を打ち出した。
文芸倶楽部では13年間に52枚の口絵を描き、多くの文学小説の単行本にも挿絵をよせるなど、人気挿絵画家となった。

The interesting artwork of a demon peering at a lady who is setting her hair in a mirror.
This artwork is one of the Kuchi-e created for the appendix of the magazine "Bungei Club" published in 1903.
Although it was produced as an appendix to the book, the quality is very high, and the delicate lines are no less than those of ukiyo-e.
Toshikata was a follower of Yoshitoshi and was nominated as the successor of the family. Toshikata developed his own unique style of genre painting with gentle elegance.
He became a popular illustrator at the Bungei Club, where he painted 52 illustrations in 13 years, and also contributed illustrations to many books of literary novels.
