本作は本の附録として制作された口絵の2点セットであり、販売当時のように本に貼付されている。
前後の2冊セットで、前編は清方が、後編は耕雪が口絵を手がけた。
清方は年方の門下で、十代にしてすでにプロの挿絵画家として活躍していた。青年期に泉鏡花と知り合い、その挿絵を描いたことや、幼少時の環境の影響もあり、終生江戸情緒及び浮世絵の美とは離れることがなかった。
肉筆作品にも力を注ぎ、日本を代表する美人画家のひとりに数えられる。

This artwork was produced as a Kuchi-e, an appendix to the book, and is affixed to the book as it was when it had been sold.
Also, this is the set of the first volume and the second (last) volume. The Kuchi-e of the first volume was painted by Kiyokata and the second volume was by Kosetsu.
Kiyokata was a pupil of Toshikata and was already active as a professional illustrator in his teens. He became acquainted with Izumi Kyoka in his youth, and throughout his life, he continued to work with Edo sentiment and the beauty of Ukiyoe.
