明治14年1月、神田松枝町から火の手が上がり、両国にも広く延焼した。
人々は底冷えする夕刻、焼跡を足早に行き来している。
本シリーズは、大判のおおよそ1/4のサイズ、小判に刷られている。小さいながらも、魅力が詰まっている。
この作品には清親の名が記されているが、実際には安治によって制作されたものとされている。

安治は当初は芳年に弟子入りしたが、明治11年頃からは清親に師事。明治13年頃には光線画を発表して浮世絵師としてデビューした。
安治の描写力は師匠の清親をも凌ぐほどで、作品は詩情を感じさせる優品が多い。
明治17年からは探景と画号を改め、様々な浮世絵作品等も手掛けるようになった。
将来が期待される才能を持っていたものの、26歳の若さで夭折している。

In January 1881, a fire broke out in Kanda Matsugae-cho and spread widely to Ryogoku.
People walked to and fro through the ruins of the fire on a cold evening.
This series is printed in Ko-ban size, roughly a quarter of the size of O-ban.
The works are small, but full of charm.
This work bears the name Kiyochika, but it is actually believed to have been created by Yasuji.
Yasuji was initially apprenticed to Yoshitoshi, but from around 1878 he studied under Kiyochika. He made his debut as a Ukiyo-e artist around 1878, when he published Kosen-ga, painting with shading.
It is thought that Yasuji's descriptive ability surpassed that of his master, Kiyochika, and many of these works are excellent with a sense of poetry.
In 1884, he changed his artist name to Tankei, and began to work on various ukiyoe works. Although he had a promising talent, he died prematurely at the age of 26.
