文化元年、江戸幕府は「文化元年の触書き」を発令。これにより、徳川家及び天正年間の大名家を描くことが明治時代まで禁止となった。
天正年間とは、「豊臣秀吉」が活躍した安土桃山時代を指す。この豊臣秀吉の生涯を描いた読本「絵本太閤記」が流行しすぎた為、徳川政権下にあった江戸幕府は、治安維持のためにも先の天下人・豊臣秀吉の人気に歯止めを掛ける為にこのお触れを出すに至った。
小田春長は織田信長、谷田宅兵衛は安田作兵衛（歴史上の名前は安田国継で、明智光秀の家臣）を暗に描いている。

In the first year of Bunka (Bunka era), the Edo shogunate issued the "Proclamation of Bunka era." This proclamation prohibited depicting the Tokugawa family and other feudal lords of the Tensho period until the Meiji period.
The "Tensho period" refers to the Azuchi-Momoyama period during the reign of Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
The Edo shogunate issued this ban to curb the popularity of Toyotomi Hideyoshi to maintain public order.
The hidden name of Oda Harunaga is Oda Nobunaga. He is the man who tried to unify the country during the Warring States Period when warlords from all over the country were fighting each other.
The hidden name of Tanita Takubee is Yasuda Sakubee. He was the retainer of Akechi Mitsuhide. Akechi Mitsuhide is the person who defeated Oda Nobunaga.
