祥邨は古邨が渡辺版画店で作品を出版した際に使用していた名前で、豊邨も含め同一人物である。
祥邨の号で制作した作品は主に海外への輸出を目的として制作されていた為、より鮮やかな色彩とはっきりとした描写が特徴だ。

古邨は、花鳥画を得意にしていた鈴木華邨に師事して日本画を習得、やがてアーネスト・フェノロサの指導のもと、古邨と号して肉筆画の花鳥画を描き、共進会に出品もしている。その後、明治38年頃から浮世絵による花鳥画の制作を開始している。画号は明治期の「古邨」、昭和元年以降に渡辺版画店において「祥邨」、カワグチにおいて「豊邨」と号している。
古邨は５００点以上の作品を制作しているが発売時より欧米でのみ人気が高く、日本国内では知る人ぞ知る絵師であった。近年、日本国内でも展覧会が開催され再評価の機運が高まっている。

Shoson was the name used by Koson when he published his works at Watanabe Print Shop. The works under the name Hoson are also by the same person.
The works produced under the Shoson name were mainly intended for export and are characterized by more vivid colors and clearer depictions.

He studied Japanese-style painting under Suzuki Kason, who excelled in flower-and-bird portraits. Then, under Ernest Fenollosa, he painted flower-and-bird pictures under the name of "Koson" and exhibited his works at the Kyoshin-kai. Later, around 1905, he began to produce flowers-and-birds Ukiyo-e. His painting name was "Kozon" in the Meiji period, "Shoson" at Watanabe Print Shop, and "Hoson" at Kawaguchi.
Koson has produced over 500 works, but since his release, he has been very popular in Europe and the United States and wasn't a well-known painter in Japan. However, in recent years, exhibitions have eventually been held in Japan, and there is growing momentum for reevaluation.
