巨大な猪を鮮やかに投げ倒すのは、平安時代末期の武士鷲尾義久、通称三郎である。播磨山で猟師をしていた義久は、その土地鑑を買われて義経に仕え、忠義を尽した。
国芳は豊国の門人で、当初は兄弟子の国貞等の人気に勝てずしばらくは不遇の日々を過ごしたが、文政頃に発表した「通俗水滸伝豪傑百八人」の連作が評判となり、「武者絵の国芳」と称され人気絵師の仲間入りを果たす。その後は画想の豊かさ、斬新なデザイン力、奇想天外なアイデア、確実なデッサン力を持ち、浮世絵の枠にとどまらない広範な魅力を持つ作品を多数生み出した。

The giant boar is thrown down with great brilliance by Washio Yoshihisa, a warrior of the late Heian period (794-1185). His nickname was Saburo.
Yoshihisa, a hunter in the Harima Mountains, served Minamoto no Yoshitsune because of his knowledge of the land, and remained loyal to him until the end of his life.
Kuniyoshi was one of the pupils of Toyokuni and was a late bloomer than Kunisada and other pupils.
Around the Bunsei period, he published "The 108 Heroes of the Popular Suikoden", which created a sensation and made him popular. He was called "Warrior-painter-Kuniyoshi" and became one of the most popular Ukiyo-e artists.
Since then, he has created various attractive artworks that excelled in high drawing techniques, fascinating composition sense, and fantastic ideas and characters without sticking to the framework of the Ukiyo-e.
