白浜に揚げられた木造船がずらりと並ぶ、房州海岸を描いた一枚。一見この絵には分かりやすいモチーフと呼べるものがないように見えるが、じっくりと時間をかけて眺めると、この地の漁師たちの仕事や生活、生き方が大変丁寧に描かれていることに気付くことだろう。黙々と日々の仕事をこなす姿、手を休め一服する一場面など、小さくはあるがその描写には作者の敬意が表れているように思える。

吉田博は23歳で中川八郎と共に渡米し、デトロイト美術館で「日本画家水彩画展」を開催。翌年にはボストン美術館で2人展を開催し、大成功させた。吉田博の作品は「空気まで描く」と言われ、全作品が完売。その後渡欧してイギリス、フランス、ドイツ、イタリアなどを巡歴し、世界各地で展覧会を成功させた。
大正9年には渡辺庄三郎と出会い、渡辺木版画舗から木版画の出版を開始。大正14年には吉田版画スタジオを創設して自ら版元となり、多くの作品を世に送り出した。
欧米での知名度が高かったせいか、吉田のアトリエは戦後進駐軍の芸術サロンのようになったという。敗戦直後の昭和20年の秋には、いち早くダグラス・マッカーサー夫人もアトリエを訪問している。米軍の将校クラブでの版画講習会や、参加者をつのってのアトリエ見学会が毎月開かれるなど、吉田作品の人気はきわめて高かったと言えるだろう。

This woodblock print depicts the Boso coastline, where wooden boats are lined up along the white sands. At first glance, the image may not feature any immediately obvious central motif, but if you take the time to observe it closely, you'll notice how the artist carefully captures the lives, work, and way of life of the local fishermen. The steady, quiet rhythm of their daily labor, as well as a moment when they pause to take a break, may seem subtle, but in these small details, the artist’s deep respect for their lives is clearly conveyed.

When Yoshida Hiroshi was 23 years old, he went to the USA with Nakagawa Hachiro and held an exhibition at the Detroit Institute of Arts. In the next year, they succeeded in the exhibition together.
Then, his artworks are expressed that "Yoshida draws the air," and all paintings were sold out.
After that, he traveled around the world and held successful exhibitions.
In 1920, Yoshida met Watanabe Shozaburo, and they began to make Yoshida's prints.
In addition, Yoshida established his own studio in 1925 and began to publish his prints.
Yoshida was famous in the USA, so his studio was used as an art salon by the occupying forces after World War II. In 1945, just after the end of the war, Mrs. MacArthur also visited Yoshida's studio. The workshops and tours of the studio for the officers were often held. This episode shows us how famous and popular he was in the USA.
