繊細なタッチで刻まれた線描は、この作品がわずか15×20cm ほどの画面に収まっているということを、忘れさせる熱量を持っている。本作は、世の中に不穏な戦争の気配が漂う、1942年に制作された。駒井は21歳であった。
同年に東京美術学校は戦争の為繰り上げ卒業となり、文展では落選、更に、父がこの世を去る。
気が遠くなるほどに緻密に描写されたレンガへの、執拗とも言える描写には、何か大きな感情を感じざるを得ない。

This artwork with a delicate touch has a fever, and that makes the viewer forget that this artwork is in small size, just 15 × 20 cm.
This artwork was created in 1942 when there was a disquieting atmosphere of WWⅡ. He was just 21 years old.
In the same year, Komai graduated from the Tokyo Fine Arts School (current Tokyo University of the Arts) early due to the war. Also, he was unsuccessful in the Bunten Exhibition, and his father passed away.
The obsessive depiction of the bricks in such meticulous detail that one can not help but feel a complex sense of emotion.
