天狗小僧霧太郎は、江戸時代の講談や歌舞伎に登場する架空の忍術使い・怪童で、天狗に育てられたとされる不思議な出自をもつ人物です。
天狗の術を受け継ぎ、変幻自在の忍術や怪力を操る存在として描かれ、奇怪で痛快な活躍が人々を魅了しました。
その妖しさと躍動感あふれる物語性から、歌舞伎や浮世絵においても人気の題材となりました。
本作品は羽子板に模した作品となり、摺の早い作品のみに羽子板の柄の部分が付けられています。

Tengu Kozō Kiritarō is a fictional ninja-like prodigy who appears in Edo-period kōdan storytelling and kabuki theater. Said to have been raised by tengu, he is depicted as a mysterious youth with an extraordinary origin.
Inheriting the supernatural arts of the tengu, he is portrayed as a master of transformation and superhuman strength, captivating audiences with his strange yet exhilarating exploits.
Owing to its eerie charm and dynamic storytelling, the character became a popular subject in both kabuki and ukiyo-e.
This work is designed in the form of a hagoita (battledore). Only early impressions include the handle portion of the hagoita design.
