“The False Murasaki’s Rustic Genji” (Nise Murasaki Inaka Genji) written by Tanehiko Ryutei was published in 1837 and became a huge bestseller. It was an adaptation of "The Tale of Genji," in which Ashikaga Mitsuji, the son of Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa, who was the equivalent of Hikaru Genji, played an active role, and was also a metaphor for the glamorous life of the Tokugawa shogun in the inner palace of Edo Castle at the time. Gorgeous ukiyoe depicting the "Nise Murasaki Inaka Genji" were also produced and became very popular. Shopping Guide & Information of the Japanese Prints
