国芳は豊国の門人で、当初は兄弟子の国貞等の人気に勝てず、しばらくは不遇であった。文政頃に発表した「通俗水滸伝豪傑百八人」の連作が評判となり、「武者絵の国芳」と称され、人気絵師の仲間入りを果たした。その後は画想の豊かさ、斬新なデザイン力、奇想天外なアイデア、確実なデッサン力を持ち、浮世絵の枠にとどまらない広範な魅力を持つ作品を多数生み出した。
「源氏雲浮世画合」は源氏物語54帖と、日本古来からの「故事」「浮世話」を結びつけて描かれた連作である。
長門国の剣術指南役吉岡一味斎が闇討ちにされ、残された妻と二人の娘は仇討のため、あてどない旅に出る。姉娘のお園は女ながらも大力で武芸が得意だったが、妹お菊は仇に返り討ちされてしまった。悲嘆の中で英彦山の麓の毛谷村にたどり着いたお園は、そこで六助というやさしい若者にめぐり逢う。

The Tales of Genji is the greatest novel in classical Japanese literature, and arguably. It was written in the first decade of the eleventh century by Lady Murasaki and relates the womanizing exploits of Prince Genji. Each of the fifty-four chapters of the novel is named and is associated.
Keyamura Rokusuke is one of the leading characters in the ningyō jōruri and kabuki play Hiko-san Gongen chikai no sukedachi and in some other plays. The farmer turned samurai is known for his filial piety and incredible strength, and is viewed as an ideal samurai.
