名取春仙は日本画家として本格的な創作活動を行う一方、夏目漱石、島崎藤村などの新聞小説の挿絵や石川啄木らの文芸本の装幀口絵等を手がけ、名を広めていく。
また、演劇界との結びつきも深く役者似顔絵を描き、大正時代以降には版元・渡邊庄三郎のもと役者絵版画を手がけ好評を博し、明治以来沈滞していた浮世絵版画に新風を注いだ。
源義経は、家来の武蔵坊弁慶らと逃避行を続ける。北陸道安宅の関で彼らを待っていたのは、関守富樫左衛門。身を隠しきれない義経、主君を助けようと必死の弁慶、その強い思いにふれる富樫。ぶつかり合う三人の立場と心。終始気の抜けない名場面が続く。
