Beautiful night view of Itsukushima-Jinja Shrine and the ship with the musicians of Japanese court music. This artwork is the depiction of the Kangen Festival at Itsukushima-Jinja Shrine.
This festival was the trend of Kyoto originally, and Taira no Kiyomori who built this shrine adopted it for worshipping the deity of this shrine.
"Famous Places in the 60-Odd Provinces" is a series by Hiroshige depicting famous places throughout Japan.
All of the works are vertically oriented, with innovative compositions such as a large foreground and emphasis on perspective.
