This series is the depictions of the crazy scenes at the famous places in Tokyo. The cultures also changed suddenly when the Tokugawa shogunate changed to the Meiji government.
On the upper image, a geisha lady who is attracted to the beautiful fireworks looks that she forgets to hold the kimono skirt.
The lower image is the depiction of the drunk man and a dog.
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839 - 92) is a Ukiyo-e artist who was active from the end of the Tokugawa shogunate to Meiji-era.
He had created various types of artworks, and we can see his unique expression styles in each genre of the works.
He was one of the most important and popular Ukiyo-e artists in the Meiji-era and also had a lot of pupils who became famous not only in the Japanese painting field but also western painting field. Sometimes he is called "The last Ukiyo-e artist".
He was also loved by a lot of writers, for instance, Tanizaki Junichiro, Mishima Yukio, and Edogawa Ranpo. The beautiful and fascinating artworks that were kept creating even he was in the mental disorder enthrall people from all around the world.
