明智光秀の重臣であった明智秀満（明智左馬之介）は、本能寺の変の後、光秀の死を安土城で知る。救援の為すぐに坂本城を目指すが、その道中堀秀政と遭遇し大胆にも打出浜から馬に騎乗したまま琵琶湖に乗り入れた。誰もが沈むと見ていたが秀満はそのまま城にたどり着く。だがその先では敵が待ち構えており、秀満は自ら城に火を放ち、自害するのであった。

When Akechi Mitsuhide was killed just after the Honnō-Ji Incident, Akechi Hidemitsu who was the senior vassal of Mitsuhide heard the news at Azuchi castle. He immediately left there to Sakamoto castle, however, he encountered the enemy on the way. In an extremely dangerous situation, he finally jumped into Lake Biwa with his horse. Everyone watching it thought he will drown, however, he finally reached the castle. But the castle was already surrounded by the enemy, and he set fire to the castle and killed himself.
