強い光が差し込む建物に人影が見える。光は人物の詳細をかき消すほど強く、深い黒色の影が部屋の奥に伸びる。刻まれたラインはラフなものの確実に空間を捉え、塗り潰された建物の奥への想像力をかきたてる。
駒井哲郎は西田武雄に銅版画を学び、50年春陽会賞、翌年第１回サンパウロ・ビエンナ－レで受賞。木版の棟方志功とともにいち早く世界の舞台で高い評価を獲得し、戦後の美術界に鮮烈なデビューを飾った。銅版画のパイオニアとして大きな足跡を残した。

In the strong sunlight, we can see a silhouette of a person inside the building. The sunlight is so strong and the detail of the person isn't clearly depicted. The touch is rough, however, each line is definitely taking the exact form of each motif. The black tone at the back of the room also stirs our imagination.
Komai learned copperplate engraving from Nishida Takeo and got a prize of Shunyo-Kai. In the next year, he got a prize at the first São Paulo Art Biennial.
Komai was highly appreciated even in the oversea with Munakata Shiko, and it enabled him to make a spectacular debut in the Japanese art field after WWⅡ.
His artwork had an impact on a lot of Japanese print artists, as a pioneer of the copperplate field.
