Eisen started out painting fragile female ladies like his master, Eizan, but later became popular for his unique and bewitching style of painting.
His paintings are characterized by six heads high, long-bodied, a hunchbacked female figure that is full of refracted emotions.
Eisen depicted the prostitutes of Fukagawa and Yoshiwara brothels as women with a bewitching and strong-willed look in their eyes. His work symbolically represents the decadent aesthetic of the late Edo period, the Bunka-Bunsei period, and shows a strong painting style that reflects the state of affairs at the end of the Edo period.
