花鳥と美人を組み合わせた団扇絵の作品。着物の模様と背景の縞模様など、斬新な組み合わせの中に貞秀のセンスが光る1枚である。
貞秀は国貞の門人で、慶応3年のパリ万博に出品の際には芳宗と共に浮世絵師の総代をつとめた。明治元年の絵師番付において、第1位にもなっている。
貞秀は美人画、役者絵、横浜絵、開化絵などクオリティの高い作品を多く残しているが、特筆すべきは鳥瞰による一覧図。貞秀は地理にも強い関心を持ち、様々な場所を旅して制作にあたったという。

The fan print of the combination of flowers, birds, and ladies.
We can see Sadahide's latent talent in the design in the combination of the beautiful patterns of Kimonos of lady and a doll and the stripes on the background.
Sadahide was a pupil of Kunisada. In 1867, when he participated in the Paris Expo, he and Yoshimune were representative of the whole Ukiyo-e artist. He also took first place in the ranking of the best Ukiyo-e artist of 1968.
The specially mentioned his artwork is the attractive bird’s‐eye view, for instance, Yokohama-e. He was also interested in geography and traveled to various places in Japan, and left beautiful artworks.
