川瀬巴水は清方の門人で深水の「近江八景」に影響を受けて版画家に転向する。
巴水は新版画の第一人者として活躍し、約40年にわたる画業のなかで、600点を超える作品を発表した。
「巴水ブルー」と称される青色は巴水の特徴的な色彩で、水や空気を表現したさまざまな青色は、日本人のみならず、スティーブ・ジョブズをはじめとした多くの外国人を魅了している。
