国貞二代は国貞（豊国三代）の門人で、嘉永3年に豊国三代の長女の婿となって国政二代を称したが嘉永5年には国貞二代と称している。これ以降、師豊国三代後を継いで活躍した。豊国三代が没した後の明治3年頃から豊国四代を名乗った。

The second generation of Kunisada was a student of Kunisada (third generation of Toyokuni), and in the third year of Kaei he became the son-in-law of the third generation of Toyokuni and named the second generation of national affairs. Since then, he has succeeded to the third generation of Master Toyokuni. He called himself Toyokuni 4th from around 1897 after the death of Toyokuni III.
