The "New Forms of 36 Ghosts" is a series of works mainly featuring ghosts and Japanese monsters.
Yoshitoshi had been suffering from mental illness, and when he started this series of paintings, he changed his painting name to Taiso Yoshitoshi to signify his recovery.
