明治に改元されると、天皇は京都から東京に移り、民には上方の酒が振る舞われたという。
新しい時代の訪れに市中は祭りのような賑わいを見せ、「天盃頂戴」などと書かれた旗をもって人々が練り歩いた。

広重三代は広重の門人で文久頃から重政と称して作画を始めたが、慶応元年に広重二代が師の家を去った後に広重三代と称した。広重三代は開化絵の名手として名高く、からりとした明治前期の時代色を良く伝えている。

When the Meiji era started, the emperor moved his residence from Kyoto to Tokyo. Then, the people of Tokyo were served sake from the Kyoto‐Osaka area.
People were excited about the coming of a new era, and the city was bustling like festivities. The "天盃頂戴" written on the flag means "sake given by the Emperor."

HiroshigeⅢ was a pupil of Hiroshige. His first artist name was Shigemasa, and after HiroshigeⅡ left his master, he changed his name to HiroshigeⅢ. HiroshigeⅢ had earned the reputation with the depictions of the civilization during the change from the Edo era to the Meiji era.
