立派な伊勢海老を画面一杯に描いた迫力のある一枚。
麦風は長原孝太郎のもとで洋画を学び、白馬会、太平洋画会、光風会などで活躍した作家である。その後版画家に転向し、日本各地の魚の生態を色鮮やかに描く版画集「大日本魚類画集」を出版した。
魚体の色を木版で表現するために、版木を数多く使用し何十にも色を重ねる「原色木版二百度手摺り」といわれる方法を用いている。
麦風のみならず彫師、摺師の熱意と努力も凝縮された画面は圧巻である。

The powerful artwork of a magnificent Ise-Lobster.
OHNO Bakufu was one of the pupils of Nagahara Kotaro, a professor of the western painting department of Tokyo Art University, currently Tokyo University of the Arts.
After he changed the field to the printmaking department, he published the "Fish Picture Collection of Japan," the beautiful collection of woodblock prints of various fishes in Japan.
To express the fishes' complex surfaces, he and the engravers and printers layered over 200 colors again and again. We can see the passion of not only Bakufu but also the engravers and printers.
