日本海の荒波に浸食され造り上げられた奇岩や断崖が続く「能登金剛」といわれる海岸を描いた1枚。海に突き出た岩盤にある「巌門」は浸食によってぽっかりとあいた洞門で、幅6メートル、高さ15メートル、奥行き60メートルもあり、小舟も通ることができるという。

「六十余州名所図会」（ろくじゅうよしゅうめいしょずえ）は、広重による日本全国の名所を描いた連作である。

広重は寛政9年、江戸八代洲河岸の定火消同心・安藤源右衛門の子として生まれた。幼少より絵を好み、15歳のときに歌川豊広の門下となった。初め、美人画や役者絵を描いたが、やがて「東都名所」のシリーズを皮切りに、数々の風景画を制作、人気絵師として名を馳せている。

This artwork depicts the coast known as Noto Kongo, a place of strange rocks and cliffs that have been eroded and built up by the rough waves of the Sea of Japan. The rocky outcrops jutting out into the sea are called 'Gammon,' a gaping cavern created by erosion and is 6 meters wide, 15 meters high, and 60 meters deep, and can be passed by small boats.

"Famous Places in the 60-Odd Provinces" is the scenery series that was created by Hiroshige. The motifs are famous and popular places in Japan.

Hiroshige was born in 1776, the son of Ando Genemon, a fireman who worked as a fireman on the Yashirosu river bank in Edo. He loved painting from an early age and became a student of Toyohiro Utagawa at the age of 15. At first, he painted beauties and portraits of actors, but he soon became famous as a popular painter by creating numerous landscapes, starting with his "Famous Places of the Eastern Capital" series.
