慶長５年（1600）徳川家康によって初めて多摩川に橋が架けられるが、度重なる水没のため渡舟が六郷領と川崎宿の間を結び、六郷の渡しは明治まで続く。
広重はこの作品意外に東海道五十三次など六郷の渡しを何度か描いており、他にも多くの浮世絵師の画題となった。

In 1600, Tokugawa Ieyasu built the first bridge across the Tama River, but due to repeated flooding, boats were used to connect the Rokugo domain and Kawasaki Inn, and the Rokugo ferry continued until the Meiji era.
In addition to this work, Hiroshige painted the Rokugo ferry several times, including in the 53 Stations of the Tokaido, and it became the subject of paintings by many other ukiyoe artists.
