貞秀は国貞の門人で、慶応3年のパリ万博に出品の際には芳宗と共に浮世絵師の総代をつとめた。明治元年の絵師番付において、第1位にもなっている。
この作品はNHKの大河ドラマ「龍馬伝」のオープニングロールで使用されたことで有名な作品。まるで魚眼レンズで撮影したような大胆な構図の中で、人と舟が溢れかえっている。

Sadahide was a pupil of Kunisada. In 1867, when he participated in the Paris Expo, he and Yoshimune were representative of the whole Ukiyo-e artist. He also took first place in the ranking of the best Ukiyo-e artist of 1968.
This work is famous for being used in the opening roll of the NHK historical drama "Ryomaden. People and boats abound in a bold composition that looks as if it were shot with a fisheye lens.
