ベルギーのブルージュにて、運河に枝を垂らす柳の下の白鳥たち。やや曖昧に決められたおおらかなフォルムは、ゆったりと流れる時間を感じさせる。第一版が制作されたのは昭和30年。昭和27年頃から米国経由で欧州に渡った記録がある事から、その頃に行ったスケッチや記憶を元に制作されたと推測される。
本作は遠志の鉛筆サインが記載された初期摺の作品。
吉田博の長男である遠志は、アメリカ各地をキャンピングカーで周りながら制作を行い、父から受け継いだ伝統木版画の技法を広く世界に普及させた。
また、野生動物を求めて南極やアフリカにも訪れ、動物の動きや様子をくまなく観察し、その本質に迫った作品を多く残している。
描かれた動物たちは、その種の生き様までも写し取られており、遠志が動物や自然に抱いていたであろう畏敬の念も見て取れる。

Swans under a willow tree with branches hanging over a canal in Bruges, Belgium. The generous form, somewhat vaguely defined, evokes a sense of time flowing slowly. The first edition was produced in 1955. Since there is a record of Toshi traveling to Europe via the U.S. from around 1952, it is assumed that this artwork was based on sketches and memories made at that time.
This work is an early print signed in pencil by Toshi.
Hiroshi Yoshida's eldest son, Yoshida Toshi, traveled around the United States in his campervan while creating artworks, spreading the traditional woodblock print technique inherited from his father throughout the world.
He had also traveled to Antarctica and Africa in search of wild animals, observing their movements and behavior in every detail. As a result, he has left behind many works that capture the essence of these animals.
The animals depicted in his artworks reflect their species' way of life, and we can see the sense of awe that Toshi must have had for animals and nature.
