平塚運一（1895-1997）は、鳥取県出身の版画家である。石井柏亭の洋画講習会をきっかけに画家を志し、後に版画技術を学んだ。版画作品が二科展などへの入選を果たした後は帰郷し、故郷で図画教員を務めている。その後は棟方志功らを指導し、1935年には東京美術学校でも版画の教鞭を執るなどして、版画の普及と作家の育成に心血を注いだ。その功績がたたえられ、1977年には瑞宝章を受賞している。

Hiratsuka Unichi (1895-1997) was a printmaker from Tottori Prefecture. After attending a Western-style painting course given by Ishii Hakutei, he decided to become a painter and later learned printmaking techniques. After Nika exhibition and others accepted his prints, he returned to his hometown to teach arts. He taught Munakata Shiko and others, and in 1935, he also led the printmaking department at the Tokyo Fine Arts School (Current Tokyo University of the Arts), devoting himself to the popularization of printmaking and the training of artists. In 1977, he got awarded the Orders of the Sacred Treasure, one of Japan's most prestigious awards, for his achievements.
