岩亀楼は、横浜の居留地の外国人を呼び込む事を目的に作られた遊郭である。
芳員は国芳の門人で、作画期は嘉永頃から明治3年頃にかけてである。武者絵、花鳥画、草双紙の挿絵などを描いた。横浜開港後は異人の生活風俗に興味を持ち、横浜絵の先駆者として数多くの作品を手掛けた。

Ganki-Ro was a brothel built to attract foreigners to the Yokohama Settlement.
Yoshikazu was a pupil of Kuniyoshi and was active from the end of Edo era to 1970. He produced the work of the warriors in the battles, Flower and Bird work, and illustrations for Kusazoshi (books). After opening the port of Yokohama, he became interested in the lifestyle and customs of foreigners and produced many works as a pioneer of Yokohama-e.
