Yoshitora was a pupil of Kuniyoshi and was one of the most active artists from the end of the Edo period to the civilization and opening of Japan. Yoshitora was most active in the Yokohama-e - the artworks related to Yokohama and foreign cultures, and Kaika-e - the artworks depicting new customs and manners around the time of the Meiji Restoration, and produced the artworks of many foreign landscapes most Japanese have not seen at the time.
