Azechi's subject matter is "mountains". Azechi established his reputation as a "Mountain printmaker" by depicting large, mighty mountains such as Mt.Asama and Mt.Ishizuchi on his prints, which are not very large.
The "Mountaineer(山男 Yamaotoko)" work he showed at the 1952 Kokuga-kai Autumn Exhibition surprised those familiar with the mountain landscape series. Still, the simple and warm mountaineer captured people's hearts, and "Mountaineer" became a synonym for Azechi's work. Shopping Guide & Information of the Japanese Prints
