武蔵、相模、駿河の景勝地八ヵ所を選び、中国の画題である瀟湘八景になぞらえた名勝八景は、豊国二代の代表作として知られている。
シリーズ中の白眉とされる「大山夜雨」は、大山不動から天を突く雨中の山容を描いたもの。雨の表現に線、面、ぼかしを駆使し、雷鳴閃光の一瞬を思わせる近代味溢れる傑作だ。
掲載作品は、シリーズ全8図の揃いとなっている。
豊国二代は初代豊国の養子となり、文政８年（1825）に豊国二代を襲名した。しかしこの襲名が当時の歌川派の中で問題になったようである。そして弘化元年（1844）には兄弟子の国貞が豊国の名跡を継いだが、本来は三代目にあたるにもかかわらず、豊国二代の存在を無視して自らを「豊国二代」と称した。

This series, which is based on the Chinese painting title "8 Shosho Hakkei-zu" (Pictures of the Eight Views of Xiaoxiang) and includes eight scenic spots selected from Musashi, Sagami, and Suruga, is considered one of Toyokuni II's most famous works.
"Night Rain at Oyama," considered the masterpiece of the series, depicts the shape of a mountain in the rain piercing the sky from Oyama Fudo. It is a masterpiece including modernity that makes full use of lines, tones, and blurring to depict the rain, evoking a moment of thunderous lightning.
The works shown here are a complete set of all eight prints.
Toyokuni II became the adopted son of Toyokuni and took the name in 1825. However, this succession apparently caused problems within the Utagawa school at the time. In 1844, his senior disciple Kunisada took over the name and adopted the name "Toyokuni II", ignoring Toyokuni II, although he was actually "ToyokuniⅢ".
