「東京真画名所図解」は小判サイズを中心とした134点からなる一連の作品で、明治14年頃から亡くなる明治22年まで、安治の活動期ほぼ全期にわたって手がけられた代表作である。
安治は人物や背景を省略し、簡潔な描写に改める事で、小判という画面の小ささを感じさせない完成度の高い作品に仕上げた。
本作品はうち100点を集め綴じたもの。
安治は当初は芳年に弟子入りしたが、明治11年頃からは清親に師事。明治13年頃には光線画を発表して浮世絵師としてデビューした。
安治の描写力は師匠の清親をも凌ぐほどで、作品は詩情を感じさせる優品が多い。
明治17年からは探景と画号を改め、様々な浮世絵作品等も手掛けるようになった。
将来が期待される才能を持っていたものの、26歳の若さで夭折している。

"True Pictures of Famous Places of Tokyo (東京真画名所図解)" is a series of 134 works, mostly Ko-ban size (approx. 19.5 x 13 cm), and is a representative work that Yasuji produced from around 1881 until his death in 1889, almost the entire period of his career.
Yasuji omitted figures and backgrounds, and by simplifying his depictions, he made the small size of Ko-ban seem almost indistinguishable.
This work is a collection of 100 of that works.
Yasuji was initially apprenticed to Yoshitoshi, but from around 1878, he studied under Kiyochika. He debuted as a Ukiyo-e artist around 1878 when he published Kosen-ga, a painting with light and shadow.
It is thought that Yasuji's descriptive ability surpassed that of his master, Kiyochika, and many of these works are excellent with a sense of poetry.
In 1884, he changed his artist name to Tankei and began to work on various Ukiyo-e works. Although he had a promising talent, he died prematurely at the age of 26.
