富士山が写っていたり、猫がいたりと、関野は様々な瓦の作品を制作したが、本作品はシンプルに瓦のみを描いた変わり種だ。瓦のみの画面はその建物の全容を不在にしており、どのような場所なのか、季節なのかもわからない。瓦の一つ一つの色の変化はパターンのように一面に広がり、想像力をかき立てている。
関野準一郎は中学時代から版画誌を発行し、25歳で上京して恩地孝四郎に師事。また、棟方志功の教えを受けた。
国内での版画展で注目されるようになった後、関野はロックフェラー財団やフォード財団、オレゴン州立大学などから招待され渡米。アメリカの色彩に影響されてか、更に鮮やかな作品を増やした。その後の東海道五十三次シリーズでは、旅を経験した関野らしいユニークな視点で景色を切り取っており、色彩豊かで魅力的な作品を多く残している。

Although Sekino has created various roof tile works, including one with a reflection of Mt. Fuji and another with a cat, this work is odd in that it simply depicts only tiles. The depiction of only roof tiles obscures the entirety of the building, making it impossible to tell what kind of place or season it is. The individual roof tiles' color variations spread across the surface like a pattern, stirring the viewer's imagination.
Sekino Junichiro began publishing print magazines as a junior high school student and moved to Tokyo at 25 to study under Onchi Koshiro. He was also taught by Munakata Shiko.
After gaining recognition for various print exhibitions in Japan, Sekino was invited by the Rockefeller Foundation, Ford Foundation, and Oregon State University and visited the United States. Perhaps influenced by the colors of American art, he produced more vivid works after returning to Japan. In his 53 Stations of the Tokaido series, Sekino captured the scenery from a unique perspective typical of his travel experiences, leaving behind many colorful and appealing works.
