Onchi Koshiro was an artist active in a variety of fields, including woodblock prints, book designs, and photography. In the printmaking field, he was influenced by Wassily Kandinsky, the founder of abstract painting. After World War II, he devoted himself exclusively to abstract prints and also developed the multi-block technique using leaves, strings, and pieces of wood.
