働く女、都会の女、湯上がりの女など、複数の絵師が様々な日本の女の様子を描いた版画集「日本女俗選」の内の一枚。すべて中判サイズ（おおよそ26.5×19.5cmほど）で制作されている。
身長を超えるサイズの蕗は秋田ふきと呼ばれる種で、広く流通する愛知早生ふき（あいちわせふき）と比べると肉質が堅く、佃煮などが好まれたようだ。
齋藤清は1907年に会津に生まれ、4歳で北海道に移住。その地で母を亡くした。
小樽での看板店の経営を経て上京し、広告業をしつつ絵画を学んだ清は、会津を離れて26年がたった30歳の時、母の妹に会いに会津を訪れる。
その後、会津の風景の中に母と暮らした幼い頃の記憶を重ねるように、その土地の風景に魅せられていった。
多くの会津作品にはぽつりと人物の後ろ姿が描かれており、雪深く厳しい気候の土地に人々の生活が根ざし、ぬくもりが宿っているような印象を受ける。こんもりと雪の積もった会津は底冷えするような寒さだろうが、清の作品の中ではどこか優しい表情を見せている。

This is one of a series of prints from the "Women's Customs of Japan (日本女俗選)" series, in which several artists depicted various aspects of Japanese women, including working women, city women, and women after taking a hot bath, etc. All pieces are produced in Chu-ban size (approximately 26.5 x 19.5 cm).
These butterbur, which grows up to two meters long, are a species called Akita-Fuki and are tougher than the widely distributed Aichi early-blooming Fuki (Aichi-Wase-Fuki) and were favored for Tsukudani (food boiled in soy sauce and sugar) and other dishes.
Saito Kiyoshi was born in Aizu in 1907 and moved to Hokkaido when he was four years old. And he lost his mother there.
After managing a signboard store in Otaru, he moved to Tokyo, where he worked in advertising and studied painting.
At the age of 30, 26 years after leaving Aizu, he returned to Aizu to see his mother's sister.
After that, he became fascinated by the landscape of Aizu, as if he was overlapping his childhood memories of living there with his mother.
In many of his Aizu works, there is a back view of a person, which gives the impression that people's lives exist and warmth dwells in the land with deep snow and harsh climate. There is a gentle expression in Kiyoshi's artworks.
