春亭は春英の門人で春扇と並んで春英門下の双璧とされる。寛政から文政の頃にかけて武者絵、役者絵、美人画、名所絵など多くの錦絵を描いたが、それよりはるかに多くの量の読本、黄表紙、草双紙、合巻の挿絵も描いている。
鰻の蒲焼は江戸っ子に人気の食文化であり、江戸前と言えば当時は寿司よりも隅田川で捕られた鰻のことであったという。鰻屋の厨房や座敷を描きながらも、見どころが多く、武者絵を得意とした春亭ならではの迫力ある画面になっている。

Shuntei was a student of Shunei and, along with Shunsen, is regarded as one of the twin greats of Shunei's followers. From the Kansei to Bunsei periods, he painted many pictures of warriors, actors, beauties, and famous places, but he also made far more illustrations for yomihon, yose-e, and kusazo-shi.
Eel kabayaki (broiled eel) was a popular food culture among Edo people, and "Edomae" at that time meant eel caught in the Sumida River rather than sushi. While depicting the kitchen and sitting room of an eel restaurant, there are many highlights, and the painting is a powerful picture that only Shuntei, who excelled at samurai paintings, could have created.
