備中は現在の岡山県あたりにかつて存在した令制国である。景勝地として知られる豪渓（ごうけい）は、川が浸食した花崗岩が独特な奇岩絶壁を形成した渓谷で、日本五大名渓の一つに数えられる。
「六十余州名所図会」は、広重による日本全国の名所を描いたシリーズ。
全図とも画面は縦長で、前景を大きく描き遠近を強調するなど、斬新な構図がとられている。
広重は寛政9年、江戸八代洲河岸の定火消同心・安藤源右衛門の子として生まれた。幼少より絵を好み、15歳のときに豊広の門下となった。初め、美人画や役者絵を描いたが、やがて「東都名所」のシリーズを皮切りに、数々の風景画を制作、人気絵師として名を馳せた。

Bitchu was once a province that existed around present-day Okayama Prefecture. Gokei, known as a scenic spot, is a canyon where granite eroded by the river has formed unique, oddly shaped cliffs and is one of the five most famous canyons in Japan.
"Famous Places in the 60-Odd Provinces" is a series by Hiroshige depicting famous places throughout Japan.
All of the works are vertically oriented, with innovative compositions such as a large foreground and emphasis on perspective.
Hiroshige was born in 1776, the son of Ando Genemon, a fireman on the Yashirosu river bank in Edo. He loved painting from an early age and became a student of Utagawa Toyohiro at the age of 15. At first, Hiroshige painted beauties and portraits of actors. He became famous as a popular painter by creating numerous landscapes, starting with his "Famous Places of the Eastern Capital" series.
