歌舞伎演目《日月星昼夜織分 夜這星》（現在は改め《流星》）の一場面を描いた作品。
七夕の逢瀬を楽しむ織姫と彦星の元に、流星が天上界の様子を注進する場面である。流星が語るには、雷夫婦の夫が雲から落ちたところがその夏流行の端唄の師匠の家であったことから夫雷は端唄に魅了されてしまい、天上界に戻っても端唄を口ずさんでばかり。妻雷はうんざりして夫婦げんかになったとか。流星はかくの通りと語り終え、手ぬぐいで汗を拭い、虚空はるかに消えていくのであった。
豊国三代は豊国の門人で、まず国貞と名乗り、天保15年には豊国二代を名乗った。（実際には既に豊重が豊国二代を襲名していたが、自分の方がふさわしいという意図なのか当時は二代を名乗ったのだという。現在は区別の為に豊国三代として扱われる。）
作画期が長く、その作品数は一万点以上に及ぶと考えられている。特に役者絵・美人画等の人物の描写に定評があり、その作品数や勢いからして江戸浮世絵界を風靡していたことが窺える。

This is a piece depicting a scene from the Kabuki play ""Yobaiboshi"" (now renamed ""Ryusei,"" meaning shooting star). It represents a theatrical vignette where a shooting star delivers a report from the celestial realm to Orihime and Hikoboshi, who are enjoying their Tanabata rendezvous. The shooting star recounts the tale of how husband of the Thunder Couple, fell from the clouds and became captivated by a popular Hauta song during his stay at the master's house of Hauta song. Despite returning to the home, Raijin remained enchanted by the song, much to the annoyance of his wife, sparking marital discord. The shooting star concluded the narrative, wiped away sweat, and then faded into the distant sky.
ToyokuniⅢ was a student of Toyokuni. He first took the name Kunisada, and in 1844 he took the name ToyokuniⅡ. (In fact, Toyoshige had already succeeded ToyokuniⅡ, but ToyokuniⅢ also took the name of Toyokuni Ⅱ at that time, perhaps intending to make himself more suitable. Today, He is treated as the third generation to distinguish between them.)
ToyokuniⅢ had a long period of painting, and some articles thought he produced more than 10,000 works. He was primarily known for depicting people, including portraits of actors and beautiful women. His number of works and popularity suggest that he dominated the Edo Ukiyoe world.
