Yoshitora was a disciple of Kuniyoshi and one of the prominent artists active from the late Edo period to the early Meiji period. His most notable works were in the genre of Yokohama-e and Kaika-e, depicting the novel customs emerging around the time of the Meiji Restoration. He left behind numerous works featuring unfamiliar foreign landscapes, which intrigued many Japanese of that era.
