吉原郭内の大乱闘を描いた一枚。タイトルの読みを見てみると、「あそびはとりどりかごのにぎわひ」とある。色々をとりどりと読み、文字通り客を鳥に置き換えた面白い図で、中心で大暴れするアオサギにおびえるスズメ、驚いて様子を窺うフクロウと、それぞれの鳥にしっかりと個性を持たせている。
芳藤は国芳の門人で、多くのジャンルの浮世絵を手がけた。特に子供向けの玩具絵において丁寧な仕事をしており、「おもちゃ芳藤」と呼ばれたという。子供が見て遊ぶために制作された玩具絵故に、現在まで良好な状態で残っているものは数少ない。

This print depicts a brawl in the Yoshiwara brothel. The title is "Asobi ha Toridori Kago no Nigiwahi."
"toridori" means "various" in English, and "tori" has another meaning of "bird."
Yoshifuji combined them and replaced the brothel guests with birds.
Each bird has its own character, such as a sparrow frightened by a rampaging blue heron and a startled owl looking around. It is interesting to see them together with the characteristics of each bird.
Yoshifuji was a pupil of Kuniyoshi and had created various genres of artworks. He particularly gained a reputation with the genre of Toy-Print, and he was called "Toy-print Yoshifuji".
Toy-Prints were created for children literally, so it is difficult to find out one in good condition.
